I used to like picking up a copy of 'All At Sea', but they got into problems and came back without seemingly the circulation from before. I used to get mine from one the chandlers in Pwllheli, but they stopped getting it and I no longer get to pop in there anyway.
I found it similar to the fishing news in the way it reported, it had no illusions of trying to be a glossy with pretty pictures and little editorial, IPC have become so vanilla now they are laughable.
Sailing Today, appears to be staffed by people on our side, YM would probably take the Duchy's point of view on the anchoring debate, where as ST reported it in adult language and dared to use words like fraudulent.
ST also have a habit of taking stuff out of the box and seeing if it 'does what it says on the tin'. I get the feeling ST is what YM was when Des was editing. ST have the bottle to suggest a product is a load of rubbish, YM would say something like it didn't quite perform as well as expected so we have given it best budget buy!
The pinnacle of testing for YM was the pre boat show instrument tests, they just listed the info from the side of box, most likely from the manufacturers website. I have kept that edition, as it stops me when I consider renewing my subs. I am not going to mention the benjenbav; sorry, boat tests, I love the ST focus on a 2nd hand boat they do each month.

Please note the absolute lack of acknowledgement of anything boat related between the Solent and Jockland. *Please also note, lack of any acknowledgement that some people actually keep boats on moorings and also lack of any tutorials on actually sailing your boat!

The only magazine I get these days, is Good Old Boat, interesting reading even if it does have an American slant (no I don't have anything against American's, their spelling is as bad as mine)

Re: UK Sailing magazines
WHSmug at Paddington have for years provided, foc, all that i've ever wanted to know from the yotting press. There are branches up north and if youse know yer postcode the nearest is here although you can generally be assured of finding one at a train station.JohnS wrote:Apart from the IPC mags - PBO, YM - are there any really good UK sailing mags? (worth buying)...
a few years ago, Paddington Smug's moved the yotty mags up to the top shelf alongside "Indian Babes" and other Desmond publications which meant you had to peruse YM etc whilst in the company of less salubrious people.
the scratch card inevitably falls out which gives you the chance of winning an IPC prize before returning the mag back to the rack and catch your train. I've never won anything.
