End of Scuttlebutt for me
No I don't think so.
The problem in TOP is that there is an element that posts regularly on there who actively pursue a BNP agenda. I have objected to this in the past but the powers that be seem content to accept it.
So what happens of course is that as soon as anyone mentions immigant then immediately the prefix "illegal" appears. Similarly when Muslim appears it somehow gains the suffix " terrorist" or fundamentalist"
Then of course those of us who do not have that political slant rise to the bait, I try not to, but sometimes the (non politically) red mist comes down.
Must say its more peaceful up here, I'm sure I'll pick up a few words of the local language over a period of time.

agreed, but the other side of the coin is those who believe that their bleeding heart, liberal doogooder attitude is also correct and equally vehemently defend their beliefs. At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion and their right to attack or defend those opinions.
Unfortunatel the effect it has had on TOP is almost beyond salvation, with so many valued posters deserting lately.
We never had this dissention when Kim was in charge, perhaps a lack of sensible moderation is to blame.
People will always take advantage of weak management.
Welcome to Jockland btw
I know it's not meant to be that way but as exiles we feel the comfort of mother in here.

I have to admit to being guilty of similar posts believing at the time that they were humourous , it's only when I sat back in the cold light of day that I saw how they came overSilkie wrote:Sadder and wiser is probably the best most of us can hope for.

Not feeling overly proud of myself David , but as Dan seems to have some wierd ideas as to what makes a good debate , I'll have to live with the fact that I've made posts that I can't pull
Hopefully I'll not make the same mistakes here but for now I'm joining others and keeping much to myself over there
If I've offended anyone over there , please accept my apologies , it's not the real me

Don't beat yourself up Dave. With the obvious exception of Claymore, I'm sure most of us have suffered from "post in haste, repent at leisure" syndrome and yes, I have seen a couple of yours that I thought were ill-judged.
We don't seem to suffer so much from it here and I'm sure it's at least in part due to the more measured pace. Thread life in another place is measured in minutes and hours while here it's days and months - years even! Over there if you don't post immediately someone else will make your point or the thread will take a completely new direction; here, you can pick up a thread a week later if you've been pondering on some point or you've been away on the boat.
Or maybe it's because we're all such well-balanced individuals.

You mean I'm the only one on here that's set the thing up to e.mail me when there's a reply
I know what you mean though , and I'm keeping my nose out for a while , it does seem that sometimes I need a bath after certain exchanges

Oh it's worth it though
I used to get a 'beep' from the laptop every time a new e.mail arrived but I set it so a rather husky sounding lady says 'Master, I have a new e.mail for you' , it almost makes the spam tolerable

Forums decline ...
The forums of IPC do seem to have declined rapidly in tone and content, but this has been an ongoing matter for some time. In the old days of Kim - things would have been nipped in the bud quickly and nothing more seen. Keith took time tro catch on but learnt. Dan has acted questionably on occasions, even re-instating characters that certainly in my view should have been permanently banned. I left as many are aware because of insulting behaviour of a couple - who I have to say are still registered there.
But let's be honest - banter is banter, but crude banter is not on - a new forumite not knowing the score would be offended with a lot that is claimed as "banter between friends".
There are also too many on various forums who consider they can post what they like. Act as they like. IPC's YBW is not unique in that.
I personally do not agree with cut & paste of communications between two parties - to another board. That is breach of terms as far as I'm concerned. Non-quoted / pasted comment is different - kept to relevance and fair tone.
I can't help but admit that I am surprised that Jimi and others have been allowed to continue some awful banter in past - especially that Jimi and others can contribute such worthwhile posts when in ' non-banter' mood.
Now I am part of the condemned ... I shall be wearing my flak jacket.

Vitriol
Welkl I have only this morning put 2 users in The Lounge on ignore for the first time, after reading their posts on the Major's latest thread. Unbelievable, one I would ban out of hand and the other I would ban for being his mate and agreeing with everything he said.
Bring back Kim, for goodness sake. Or at least get rid of Dan, he's lost control and there's no way back for him now.

Good old Nigel, getting facts totally mixed up with fantasy again . the post you refer to was in the public domain in TOP so the first part of your post is, as usual, completely wrong. As to the second part, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it .. however I have my on opinion on some of yours. Nice of you to bring your personal agendas here.

Nothing personal Jimi ... just posting in reply to your original about Scuttlebutt and Dan Foley - which strikes me as not mixed up in fantasy nor do I have any comment about TOP. Next time I shall remember to "quote" the relevant post replied to ?jim.r wrote:Sunrider25 wrote:

See you are still on form as usual ! And actually there is no malice or other in posts I've made here ... just humble opinion based on years of observation.
It's funny - because I only registered after someone pointed me to Bluemoment. I thought it would be interesting to see others views other than the standard rag-bag of stuff that get's trolled out ad nauseam elsewhere. Seems I was mistaken. Sorry to have riffled a few feathers !
