Familiar with The Western Isles of Scotland?

We are planning to cruise the West Coast of Scotland and the Western Isles next summer in our Dufour 485 Oboe D'Amore. I have only sailed there once before, as part of a Round Britain trip so don't have a good knowledge of the area. Would welcome any input, such as links to relevant websites, blogs, or even books/almanacs! Just a quick brain dump would be fantastic.

Thanks for the link to Penguin. It is a work of art. Did you ask me where the dream came from? A friend, Mary Lewis from N Uist has written an illustrated book of poetry "Saints and Sailors" following our Round Britain sail in 2005. I have one of the few copies, as it is unpublished and an inspiration.

Oboesailor,
I have attached two .pdf files to an email to the contact address on your website. They are US Navy sailing directions for the West Coast and for the Inner Clyde.
Although they are old and under no circumstances should be relied on for navigation, there are some useful snippets such as tidal flows, waypoints and coastal headland profiles which might occupy an hour or two on passage.

My limited comment? (We have only had our boat based in oban for the last three seasons) is that the area is big, there is a lot of coast line, there are a lot of great anchorages, the islands are all very different. I don't think you will leave thinking you have "done it".
