Echo sounder works reasonably reliably at tickover (although best when sailing) but as soon as any revs above tickovver are applied it becomes unreliable
(although it sometimes works not too bad in depths of 2-5 metres. which leads me to think that it may be a combination of the instrument and some interference)
Engien and alternator are new and the alternator charges just fine - very noticable drop in revs when switching from engine start to domestic battery if the domestic is at all low.

UPDATE ON FAIRWINDS' SOUNDER PROBLEM

I've just fitted a new Target2 Sounder - instrument and transducer. The instrument is reading with the boat out of the water - which the old one never did - but it is fluctuating between 0.9m and 2.2m
I gues it isn't that great as an altimeter?
