Re: WeatherFax

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll investigate them. I refuse to carry a laptop onboard, I like to get away from the Internet while sailing. The tablet is a late addition to the boat and only purchased when both the Hydrographic Office and Imray said that they would no longer publish paper charts. Tha...

WeatherFax

Bit of an odd request, but hey I am odd.

I have an app that creates a weather fax from shortwave transmissions and wondered if a) anybody does the same and b) have any recommendations for a cheap shortwave radio that can receive 2618.5, 3855, 7880 and 13882.5 kHz?

Re: This forum

Nick and I have been emailing and I've come to the conclusion that I won't pick up the task of forum management as I really want to go sailing.

Re: This forum

I'd certainly be interested. I have some very rusty IT skills and already run a domain name linked to a blog on blogger.

What are the running costs?

As a refugee from TOP I would hate to see this place close. Sailing Anarchy is a shambles.

An interesting load of twaddle. I have no idea what they are trying to achieve with this questionnaire.

The Boat Crook

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away there was the Exe Buoy Hook, but sadly the company disappeared. I find the usual offerings rather flimsy and difficult to use when picking up my mooring. I've finally found a company Buoycatcher who does something similar the boat crook . A big advantage is ...

Re: Surveys: Creel Marking and UKHO Navigation Publications

I've added my voice and said bring back SC Folios, but not expecting that to happen in my lifetime.

Still, if the MAIB ever need to ask why I have such old charts onboard I shall reply, 'The UKHO stopped publishing folios and I'm a Scot'.

Re: Providence of Brixham, Sound of Jura

no self tailing winches, no low friction blocks, no dyneema cordage & jammers and no GPS and electronics to tell you where you are or put a number on the wind speed and direction.....how didi they do it? There are a number of traditional boats still being sailed. Doing stuff takes a bit longer ...

Re: Providence of Brixham, Sound of Jura

As I am in the Westcountry there are a few Brixham Trawler down here. Very majestic looking, but not my type of sailing.
