The links below takes you to a couple of surveys: the RYA are asking for reports of entanglement or poorly marked fishing gear. You may remember I posted about this last year. The UKHO are asking about use of navigational services, so your chance to let the bods that be know if you want to retain paper charts.

The current code allows for the marking of creels with a single buoy with the boat number written on it. So, at night, you may or may not see these markers. https://www.gov.scot/publications/creel-marking/

I would like the print on demand service for UKHO charts to be retained, as I think this is robust backup solution, no matter how many devices there are on board with Avionics et cetera. The survey is loaded in my opinion, structured to give a desired finding e.g. 8 out of 10 respondents use digital navigation aids and not paper charts.

What's that? Dunno! Should we be worried about that? Dunno! How? Ah dunno!

I've added my voice and said bring back SC Folios, but not expecting that to happen in my lifetime.
Still, if the MAIB ever need to ask why I have such old charts onboard I shall reply, 'The UKHO stopped publishing folios and I'm a Scot'.
