Berthing west coast June?
Where's a low cost place to berth for second half of June 2016?
Thinking of doing the St Kilda Race, then the Round Mull, and rather than sail back to the Clyde only to come back west again 2 weeks later it would make sense to leave her on the west coast.
Suggestions?

Maybe you could persuade our wenmaister to go cruising for a fortnight, or maybe the man with the yellow mooring buoy, if the yard havn't lost the chain.

PS, Returning home on the last train after a nite oot, as if you couldn't guess!

The visitor moorings at Lochcarron, Broadford, Plockton and Arisaig all do weekly rates, but perhaps this is too far north?

Duncan's moorings at Cardingmill Bay are a mere £75 a week.

If you can give the likely dates, if I'm away you'd be welcome to the Big Yellow Buoy.ash wrote:Maybe you could persuade our wenmaister to go cruising for a fortnight, or maybe the man with the yellow mooring buoy, if the yard havn't lost the chain.

Re: Berthing west coast June?
Doing abit of hunting round, I see that Oban Bay community moorings seem best value for a week (£75 as per Marisca), but Loch Feochan seems similar. Somewhere near Oban would be good, as the Round Mull start there and there a train back east.
Dates are likely to be from about Monday 13th June to Fri 1st July or so.
Thanks for the possibility Claymore, can see closer, when this hot weather ends?

You'll not be staying for the party in Lochmaddy then?
The moorings at Lochmaddy are £10 a night if by some unlikely happenstance the weather is less than accommodating for a batter down to Oban.

When is the party?
The website details are a bit light. One part has the race starting on Friday, another on Saturday. One schedule says prizegiving and "onshore program of events" for Saturday.
If the race starts at 9am Friday 10th as suggested, I reckon its about 100miles round trip (don't know yet if rounding Boreray also is mandatory) and with say a 2 hour jaunt ashore while there, that's pretty late to be getting back to Lochmaddy - could be 3-4am Saturday? Its about 15 miles, say 3 hours from finish line (assuming that's same as start, at some yet to be defined place near Pabbay) back to Lochmaddy.
Really need a bit of detail on this escapade, its one way to spend these warm wet winter days dreaming of being back out there on the briny.
Wonder if there'll be a company to cruise with from the Clyde to Lochmaddy?

I am not getting too excited until more details are released. There is supposed to be an announcement at LIBS.

I'm hoping to get Orla out the shed at Fairlie around that time and will be heading for Gairloch, maybe even via Lochmaddy, still thinking about St Kilda, won't be able to commit to anything until much nearer the time.mm5aho wrote:Wonder if there'll be a company to cruise with from the Clyde to Lochmaddy?

Bloody colonials! London International Boat Show - though it certainly ain't what it used to be and the Guinness was a lot better at Earls Court.mm5aho wrote:LIBS?marisca wrote:... There is supposed to be an announcement at LIBS.

Re: Berthing west coast June?
Hi Geoff
You used to be able to hire moorings in the bay between dunstaffnage and Connel. Can't remember the name of the bay but they used to be quite reasonable. Only downside was the tide which can be ferocious and you were hanging off a mooring which thumped against the view all night.
Ferryman pierr maybe? Sulemanating bay rings a bell
Regards
