Worst 2 or 3 anchorages

What are the worst places you've anchored overnight?

I once anchored the night in Port Mary (near west entrance to Cuan Sound). It was a bad choice!

best and the worst could be Brodick. I spent flat calm nights there in the shelter of the hills. On 2 other occasions I've had to move after mooring in flat calm but by the time we came out the pub it was blowing a hooley from the east. Twice I've had to move round to the shelter of the Holy Isle at the wee small hours of the morning. Once because a guest was badly seasick and the other time because it was just to uncomfortable to sleep, on neither occasion was any wind from the east forecast.

I once anchored in Loch a Choire (Loch Linnhe near Glensanda).
It wasn't so windy, but very gusty, from every different direction. Most uncomfortable!

Lamlash 'cos it's generally awful with a foul bottom. ( like my crew on that trip I seem to recal...I don't feed the crew curry anymore)

Or Bunessan with a Kelpy bottom which defeated the CQR. The Fortress got a good grip though.

Or Otter Puddle in the summer.

Gourock since the Streakers went off and were replaced by the wash creating, nausea inducing Argyll Ferries every bloody 20 minutes.

Arinagour in strong southerlies.

The allure of Katie Morag for the grandchildren was greater than pilot book warnings and adherence of common sense. Wind veered west south west overnight, but waves still came in from the south, so we ended up rolling, yawing and pitching at mooring....departed very early.

I agree on this one... Depth drops off so quickly, bit like Holy Loch, but HL has more mackerel.

Lamlash- only anchored off the Holy Isle to avoid easterlies. There are countless remains of moorings off the village, so I tend to use the PAYG versions.
Bunessan wasn't too bad- went WELL west round by the fishing pier /west bay though?
Duntrune Bay opposite Crinan looks OK but is full of Kelp. OK if no wind to speak of and not Southerly..
St Ninian's bay west side of Bute. Not too bad , but definitely weed infested in places - more north west than east?
Kylesku South Ferry Bay. Limited swinging room, too many random moorings and Kelp. Horrid.

I too have had some poor nights at both Brodick and Milport, but with no/little wind.

In Brodick the bloody buoy was tapping on the hull for ages in tide induced swell with no wind to blow us off the damned thing.

Similar in Millport but I was side on to the swell which was nearly rolling me out of bed.

My memories of Bunnesan are good, we were North and slightly East of the stone pier, can't remember wind direction.

Crinan is a good place for us but we go well past the canal entrance and anchor in <6'.
