Winter Solstice pub meet.
With every bloody shop touting Xmas goodies I find my thoughts turning to alcohol in an attempt to escape. If the forum denizens are considering their traditional Edinburgh pub meet-up, may I advise that Marisca's skipper will be in darkest Africa* 'tween 9th and 29th December. So you can either take that as an invitation to avoid those dates or to gleefully plan during them - it's up to you.

Re: Winter Solstice pub meet.
Seems an eminently sensible plan to me
What about Thursday 4th December?
A place with decent beer, seats and no loud music in central Edinburgh?
7.30 ish?
Some of the usual suspects?

I can't do 4th, I'll be busy imbibing a lawyers offering, and getting anything from a lawyer is miraculous, so missing it would be disastrous.

Geoff, don't just say you can't - give another suggestion.
I'm ok for 4th but not 5th/6th/7th.

Some of you are far too busy.
You should take things easier at your time of life Alastair.

I could do (as at today's diary state) 1, 2, 3, 5, 8th.

Re: Winter Solstice pub meet.
There appears to be two separate threads trying to organise this...
I'm OK for any night that week, but in the interests of avoiding crowds would recommend not Friday.
The Doric has been fine for the last few years.

Well it goes against the grain a bit to accommodate Marisca's foibles in any way, however some time around the 2-3-4 December is fine for me. I agree Friday night is probably a bad idea. As to venue the Doric has been OK, an alternative which might also suit - 'decent beer, seats and no loud music' - would be the Bow Bar at the fit of Victoria Street. Maybe a bit short on seating if there's more than a handful of participants.DaveS wrote:There appears to be two separate threads trying to organise this...

As an inveterate critic of opinion surveys Ken really should have known better ..........
I shall be in the Doric from about 1900 hrs on Thursday 4th December. I would be very happy to meet any of you who are there.
Peace and goodwill !

Re: Winter Solstice pub meet.
We seem to have come full circle. Thursday 4th still works for me. Be there or be square.
Sorry you can't make it Geoff - I'd hoped to have a wee chat about galvanising.
