Had my last sail of the season last week.

Despite some challenging conditions we managed to sail 5 days out of 6 and even if one of those was only motoring 1.25 miles back from the pub on the morning after, another was among the top 10 days afloat from what has been a great year aboard the good ship Silkie.

A good season for me all things considered.

Most of my time afloat this Summer was in a paid capacity doing skippered charters for Alba. A great opportunity to sail some excellent yachts . . . my best memory is 9.7 knots close-reaching down the E. coast of Eigg in Pollyanna, but a lot of other great sails and some new anchorages . . .

And I increased the record for my longest solo sail on Fairwinds from Balvicar Bay to Clachan Sound to Balvicar to Stornoway and back . . .

Fairwinds' Second Skipper missed beyond imagining, but she wanted me to keep sailing and I have.

I've been on holiday for the past three weeks, mostly out of internet range

It was supposed to be a windsurfing trip but we've had hardly any wind.We did have some crunching big wave days in Donegal so the epoxy will be getting a work out when the kit has dried off.

This past week on Tiree has been mixed. 40 knots on the first day and nothing much since.

Home today to put boatie alongside for the winter.

The tub never got out her cradle this year and refit is so slow! It will be all over by Christmas! Still, she shall be heading North early next year, perhaps a January sail up to the canal. Does it close for the winter?

Spent today getting the sails, boom and dodgers off ready for winter ashore. Sailing has been rather limited this year due to work getting in the way. This wasn't quite how I envisaged retirement...

Sailed more when I was working. Home now looking almost complete since we bought it in 1972, Garden looking less like the upper reaches of the Amazon, Shed still impossible to penetrate, Grandchildren with us for a couple of weeks.
No idea when I will be up to the boat -

We feel like we have had a good season, probably just been luckier with the weather than other years.

Had a trip up to Craobh and back last Thursday/Friday and got the sails off dry which was good.

I filled the car with stuff that would be better off in a warm dry house over winter and winterised the engine on Saturday.

Had a sociable visit to Kip for the boat show Saturday evening and Sunday.

There was lots going on @ Kip but for an impecunious boater looking to either go up a couple of feet or 10 years newer, or both, than a 1979 Centaur, Largs seemed to be a better bet. The Konsort we looked at could grow on me but the 2002 Bavaria 32 which was twice the price wanted me to have it.

We've just had a quick blast from Kip to Port Bannatyne. Wind aft of the beam. Full white sail. 5 knots average berth to berth. 7.3 knots max according to the GPS.

Hope we get home tomorrow!

Likely to be the last sail of the season as work is a bit busy.

The forecast for up there sounded quite good this morning, dull and damp with drizzle here.

Glad you had a good sail today, at least the wind wasn't about yesterday to make you wish you were out there with a tiller in your hand.

The weekend has been great - lots of variety - including a bit of work to help pay for it.

Walked both ways, to / from Rothesay so no guilt felt for tea of venison steak, big cheese plate, red wine.

Bought a couple of DVDs in charity shop to pass the time tonight.

Just sqeezed the last dregs out of the last wine box - so that must be a sign - that the season is over!

We've just had a quick blast from Kip to Port Bannatyne.

We may have passed as we sailed from Largs to James Watt Dock today, where I noticed that we were berthed across the way from a Bluemoment Notable. Very good conditions for tacking into the Clyde although it got a bit slow around Gourock.
