VIC 32 a bit of a thug?

Post by sahona »

We came down from Crinan through the canal the other day. Unfortunately for us the VIC32 was coming the other way.
He appeared round a bend in the middle of the channel. I gave 5 hoots and moved closer into the trees on the starboard side. He kept on coming - so far over to his port that I was uncertain which side he wanted to pass, however since he hadn't acknowledged seeing us, I gave 5 more hoots and moved properly into the forest. Further attempts to hoot failed as I had 'blown' my horn (electric)... He brushed past and we ended up with a scratched (from the trees) boat full of branches and debris.
Just a warning then, it appears he is notorious for ignoring other vessels in his vicinity, but we didn't hear about that until too late.

That's not a bad idea - whilst I languish yet again, exiled in Daneland, I shall ponder on how best to job the scurrilous fekker.

It might be pretty hard to hear anything if sitting on the steaming puffing billy?
But eyes should be less affected?

I once came across the VIC 32 in the Caledonian Canal in the Muirton basin, we were both going to be heading in the same direction, and I was advised by canal staff to keep well clear!

This thread is a touch alarming...
My mother's family were G & G Hamilton - the Glen**** puffers - ended up as Glenlight Shipping prior to being shafted by the HMG support for road rather than sea transport. I was considering a trip on vic 32 next year, don't want to be seen to be getting into bad company!!

If they let me on the helm I can assure all I will behave!

If you're do take trip on the subject ship, please don't hang over the side waving in ignorant glee as you pass other boats your chauffeur has forced out of the channel.
