We look for the opinion of sailors to design an hydrogénérat

Post by Jean Do »

Hello,
I start an activity whose purpose is to design a hydro generator for cruising sailboat.

it is a system that is placed in the back of a sailboat and generates electricity to recharge the batteries when the boat is moving.
Its characteristic is to produce electricity with a low fluid velocity and with very little inertia, which is interesting for cruising yachts in slow motion.

We will start the production of prototypes.

To best meet the needs of boaters we posted a questionnaire that you can find here:

https://fr.surveymonkey.com/s/YX36P9V

If you'll take a few minutes to answer this questionnaire, your help will be very valuable.

I should add that I know the legitimate reluctance of forums to host commercial communications. I took contact with the board administrator one month ago to ask if there could be a problem with this message on the forum. As I did not get an answer, I take the liberty to send it.
If this is a problem I will remove it.

Sincerely.

On yachts ?

I think a hydro generator on a small boat would create far too much drag.

Well, I filled up his questionnaire. He implies that his proposed gadget will have almost no drag and will not slow down the boat at all. The phrase that came into my mind was "Ye canna break the laws o physics, Captain". He also seemed to have a belief that yachties would be happy to pay many thousands of Euros for this magic gadget.

OTOH I can see a possible market for those who have swinging moorings in tidal streams. Many years ago I anchored overnight near the confluence of the Earn and the Tay while the mechanical log clocked up quite a few miles.

Who also declare that their products are low drag! If they said high efficiency I'd have more faith in the devices but presumably they are actually pretty inefficient.

I agree. That's why I put the old troll smilie ! !

But as for land based, that's a completely different argument . . . . .
