Last Monday Hallaig, the first of two cutting edge ‘hybrid’ ferries, and the first of its kind in the world, was launched at Ferguson Shipbuilders, Port Glasgow, by Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon. Hallaig is the first commercial ship built on the Clyde in five years.

Hallaig is scheduled to operate on the Portree - Raasay service.

Always good to get positive news at this dreich time of year. Energy storage in vehicles, including ferries, is an important part of making intermittent renewable power sources more sensible.
