Island for sale in Loch Linnhe - calling Matt . . .

Post by Nick »

.
Here's a bargain for someone looking for an island:

Eilean Balnagowan lies in Cuil Bay between Oban and Fort William, in Loch Linnhe to the North of Dallens bay and Shuna It extends to around 36 acres, and is less than a mile offshore. There is also a freshwater spring. Highland council has granted permission for a bothy on the island (for temporary holiday home purposes). The island has been used in the past to graze cattle. Wildlife includes red deer, seals and otters as well as a wide range of birdlife.

The guide price is £395,000. For further information contact CKD Galbraith on www.ckdgalbraith.co.uk or call 01786 434 600.

I'm thinking of Matt - he is obviously pining for the fjords of Scotland if you read today's blog from somewhere en-route to Panama.

ooh, this looks quite fun. Not actually totally miles from anywhere (tho depends if you count oban or fort william as “somewhere”)...

I looked up what a bothy is, and it appears to be a sort of cr@ppy stone house, possibly with open door policy, altho that must be quite a lot of houses, specially oop north.

It needs some work: a gianty generator hidden away somewhere underground for starters, zoned under-heather heating, a nicer beachy bit for whamming ashore in the dink, and of course - mains whisky. I would also quite like electronically operated remote “beating" devices to encourage frequent stampedes of the red deer, hopefully straight through the living room.

Matt, you don't need to buy it - there's an anchorage;

what the....? Is Shard anchoring off, dinking ashore and tramping around the island taking photos etc part of the deal? Is that why it's for sale?

I saw this and upturned the piggy bank.
This looks great if you could, as tcm suggests, sympathetically brought it up to modern standards by stealth.

I actually bid on an island about 1994 which I saw in Country Life whilst flying home one Thursday.
It was only £72000 at the time, wish I had won it.
