I would like to introduce myself
my name is Rainer, german, sailing a MOODY 346
starting at the middle of May from Helgoland to the eastcoast of England, Scarborough or Whitby, going north to the Orkneys, back to Inverness, Caledonian Canal, Islands of Lewis, southwards to Ireland, Landsend and back to netherland.
I would like to meet sailors, maybe on the same way or in ports of my trip

Hi & welcome aboard. There are a few likely to be around, but I am on the wrong side of the Irish Sea in N Wales. But keep in touch as you go.
Some excellent cruising in that route - you will surely enjoy it, but there's an awful lot to do & see.

Welcome Rainer. I am based in the Oban area on the west coast of Scotland as are a few others on here. Let us know when you will be leaving the Caledonian Canal and there's a good chance someone will be around. I berth in the excellent Dunstaffnage marina if you're planning to stop in the area.

Join FON. This will give you free access to a lot of BT hotspots plus access to private members' routers as well. You will need to also invest in a booster antanna such as the REPEATIT.harlekin wrote:thanks for welcome

(While the Repeatit is the Rolls Royce of waterproof boosters there are other cheaper ones like THIS ONE or THIS ONE - WHICH IS OMNIDIRECTIONAL
Hope to see you when you come past Oban, keep us posted.

You have to buy a Fonera router to replace your existing router. This allows other people to access and share your wi-fi connection securely. BT Home Hub routers have the software built in, so a lot of BT subscribers are customers already.harlekin wrote: thanks a lot,

Hi
Yes it is possible to get through the Crinan canal but would advise that you hire a 'pilot' who will assist your passage. The skipper's guide (http://www.scottishcanals.co.uk/media/3 ... 0canal.pdf) will explain most of what is required. A call to the office in Ardrishaig will be the best way to get information
Regards
Donald

If you let us know when you are planning to go through perhaps one of us can come and give you a hand.harlekin wrote:hallo, lordmacdonald wrote:Me too, come and say helloSilkie wrote: I berth in the excellent Dunstaffnage marina if you're planning to stop in the area.
