Was I dreaming or did I read a post recently on how Nick and Silkie were going to stand guard at the forum portals to prevent luncheon meat purveyors from gaining entry. Something about vetting a new contributor's first post, I think.

That is so and it has been working well until now. How he got on is currently a bit of a mystery.

Probably because you were vetting him for Lorne sausage, rather than Spam. In the wrong light, they can look similar.
