What thinners?

I will be using "No Nonsanse" (supposedly) liquid contact adhesive on foam backed vinil on cabin sides around ports.
This glue is very thick and I would like to thin it down to make it easier to spread.
I contacted the distributers this morn but they havent a clue what thinners to use.
What a load of nonsense.
Any ideas?

Without sniffing it I can't say.

I used some aerosol spray on stuff and that was distinctly Acetony (nail varnish remover) as was a tub of contact adhesive I used last year.

Evostick used to smell of xylene AFAIR but I could be wrong. The trouble is they are both opposite ends of the spectrum solvent wise.

Why not try (in an inconspicuous place) and see what works? Of course you probably don't have a selection of different solvents laying about like some folk I know.

Actone makes a mess of perspex, it goes cloudy and opaque, so don't get it on your plastic bits. Meths will often shift the stuff acetone does, but it's more gentle.

Petrol or celulose thinners ( ethyl acetate) should have some effect on the things acetone/meths won't touch.

Of course these are all heavier than air vapours and as flammable as ...... burn very well so retire to a safe distance for a rollup.

I used a spray can of contact adhesive for the lining - it was designed for sticking down the joints in contract carpet and I 'found' it on a site.

I used this stuff from ASAP Supplies for the sound deadening foam

The only mention of thinners that I've found so far is this - but note the reports of extreme aggression - Thinner / Cleaner.

Does the adhesive not thin down a bit if you warm it up? I mean place the tin in hot water - don't attack it with your blowtorch.

If you are only doing small areas then you might get away with applying the adhesive to one hard surface only and pressing down and holding the foam whilst the adhesive is still wet.

I have done this job, and I respectfully suggest that you keep the Non Nonsense for use on final trim edges.

You really should use a contact spray adhesive from a carpet fitters, for which you will also require a 3M Mask, or be prepared to stagger around pished for a couple of hours and have a bad head.

You then spray it to both surfaces, have a quick cup of tea and apply. Peel back edges if not stuck, and brush on the no nonsense.

I think I paid about a fiver for a big tall tin of it from Hawke House, enough to do the entire headlining on my 25 footer.

Have a 3M toxic vapour mask, although your comment FC about bing pi**ed etc sounds like not not a bad idea kill two birds with the one stone
Mind you I am developing a taste for the guiness recently

Amazing how far things can be allowed to deteriorate before something is done.
Racers seem to be particularly blinkered unless a functional gophast bit breaks!

it had been sat in a field under a sappy tree for 3 years and had at least 18 inches of stinking water in it.
As you say, amazing how much some owners allow their boats to decay.
