Cuan no more?

Might be an idea to sail the cuan sound while you can. The headline on todays Oban times is that there is a proposal to causeway the sound to enable the island to develop. It seems a pity from the selfish sailing point of view, although hopefully some tidal power would be extracted. Would it impact croabh and kilmelford by making them a long way up a big "sea loch"?

This idea has been about for a while. I have decidedly mixed views. From a purely personal perspective I would regret the loss of the Cuan short cut. It is, OTOH, a good site for tidal generation, and I'm sure that most of Luing's inhabitants would prefer a causeway to the ferry. A compromise might be to have a boat lock & lift bridge included in the design, but this would put the cost up and would need some very effective arguing. Could a case be made on the basis of ancient navigational rights, perhaps?
