WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1500 Friday 8th January 2010
SATURDAY:
High pressure over Scandinavia is going to be extending a ridge westwards through the country. Low pressure over central Europe squeezes the wind flow through England and Wales bringing a brisk northeasterly to many. This making it feel bitterly cold.
Some snow showers along eastern coasts of Scotland and England, with some snow flurries along southern coasts of England too.
Inland the cloud is going to be more broken with some sunny spells coming through, the best of them for western Wales and northwest England.
More persistent snow may affect the west of Scotland.
Winds will be from the ENE at 10-12kt (F3) through Scotland, but increasing as you head south to be closer to 20-28kt (F6) over southeastern England.

SUNDAY:
High pressure remains over Scandinavia with a ridge extending westwards through Scotland. To the south lower pressure will be across northern France with fronts nudging northwards through the day. This developing zone of weather could produce some more significant snowfall later in the day.
It is going to be a bitterly cold one again cross all parts of the country. Wind chills could be around -20C! There will be more in the way of cloud around than on Saturday, and this is going to be bringing an increasing risk of snow flurries throughout England, Wales, Ireland and southern Scotland. Northern Scotland remaining dry with more sunshine.
As the day wears on the snow becomes more persistent across parts of East Anglia and the southeast, as well as for eastern parts of Wales.
Winds will be from the E or NE at 12kt (F3-F4) in northern Scotland, 20kt (F5) in southern England.
