Official pirates

I told the arc organisers (at the back end of an email) that Mojomo crew will be the Official ARC Pirates, and they didn't seem to mind. Or at least, thiv not said anything. So, i have gotten a nice big black skull+crossbones parasail due soon, and the "Official ARC Pirates" dodgers arrived yesterday, quite a bit bigger than i thought they wd be at 6m long, but should look good in the pics. Unless we get thrown out of course...

There has been much debate over on "one of the other forums" about the flying of pirate COLOURS, with the general opinion being that it is NOT PROPER or RESPECTFUL given the seriousness of Piracy. Granted, Piracy is a very serious matter - but do those ba'heeds seriously think there are boats zipping around Somalia flying the "Skull & Bones"?.
My answer to the OP is if you think it will make you look cool, with it and big, then by all means fly it.
I myself have never seen one being flown but have on several occassions happened upon middle-aged bikers at roadside cafes with the said motif emblassoned upon bandanas, T-shirts etc and felt nothing but sadness. What is it in these guys youths that they felt they had missed out on? Or, are they just tring to look BAD! ( Befoe they go home to check Zarah & Quentins homework).
When I were a yoof, I strode about in bondage breeks, resplendant in red/ blue/ ??? Mohican touting Anarchy and mayhem.
Then I met my beloved Caroline, got her up the stick and realised the responsibilities of having others to care about apart from myself. Never claimed a penny of benefit in my life, been through all the sh*(walked 8 miles to sell a couple of my beloved vinyls for £4 so I could buy some nappies!) but have never felt the compultion to declare that I am a pirate........ On the contrary, I work hard for everything I have, legitimately.
We are 42(me) & 36 now and our kids are 18 & 14. We have our life back, still have a modicum of youth (in mind if not in body - me again, wife still got the bod of the lass I met years ago).
But I cannot understand this declaration to be a "rebel"???? Don't get me wrong, I may live my life these days within the confines of the law (and dear Mrs P is a Prison Officer) but we still have the same "spirit". Yet, we don't feel the need to advertise that. I would gladly "punch someones lights out" if he were a threat to myself, my wife or someone within my company(and at 5'6" this is deceptively easy, despite what logic may suggest, irrelevant of the opponents size).
What I can't figure out is the blatant antagonism? Look at me, I am a Pirate??? What is it about? Do we gaze, goggle eyed at the sight? Do we scamper away afraid?
Tell me, what is the expected reaction? Do we see you in the bar later and think, "there's the f*ckin idiot with the Jolly Rodger".......

Well - what I can tell you is that the name of the boat is Black Pearl and you were off Ardlamont Point, coming I suspect from Tarbert on board an Ecume de Mer. How many points?

Ron, I can understand your upset at the symbol,but its 300 years out of date. One interesting fact I learned today was that HMS subs fly the jolly roger. If its OK for them its ok for me. When you have kids on board it always makes their day to hoist the JR.

Nice to see a pic of her with the black gennaker up - all I had was a diagram from the sailmaker when I did the site, so I had to hoist the sail cybernetically.

Is Black Pearl moored in Loch Ridden as I have not seen her there.

She certainly was moored in Loch Riddon earlier this year, but I am not sure if she is still there - I have not heard from the owners for about three months. There is some more info about the boat plus more photos on the rather fine website I posted a link to above (click the pic).

Loch Riddon - yes that's the one. She was bought (I think) in Spain and came back to Sandpoint at Dumbarton where an awful lot of money was spent doing her up.

As for Pirates, have to agree - they're fun. My nephew and neice won't sail unles the Jolly Roger is flying aboard their boat!

I always thought Pirate ships were called "the Black Pig" and had crew with names like Seaman Staines & Master Bates the cabin boy etc etc.

HMS subs do indeed fly the Jolly Rodger, but as signification of a "KILL" - eg Belgrano./ Conqueror. I presume the same applies today as I am a few years out of date on such matters.

Anyway, appologies all around on this note. It would seem that while I am "exiled" in Africa (not a drop to drink- or worthwhile internet access) I am able to keep ones mouth firmly shut.
Meanwhile, good internet access, coupled with extortionately priced alchohol, while held hostage in Norway (I am fighting off my rescuers valiantly) is not such a good thing for me. My mind tends to wander a bit and I loose my usual tolerance (which is admittedly a fairly narrow band).

I would blame withdrawal from anti - malarial drugs but as I rarely take them, this is not a viable excuse. (I don't take them as I consider the side effects to be disproportionate to the abilities of any mossie that can fly 150 miles offshore !)
My only excuse is, I get drunk in my room at night occassionally (finish work at 3pm) and I wake in the morning thinking " oh f--k , I was on BM/ the other one last night.......... then I get so upset/ embarrassed, whatever that I daren't check back for a few days to see what I have written. I know I shouldn't do it but I do.

It seems that alcohol is the only thing that can lead me from my usual Forums - leatherladyboyjoy.com or latexdonkeylove.com................
However, appologies to those that I offended. Don't take me too seriously - I don't!
I am a man of contradicting opinions and ill thought out theories........... but I admit to being so and am open to arguments and suggstions in the contrary........
However, read my original post, and thought what an ignorant/ arrogant prat. I (being 5' 6" as stated, would be happy to attempt to "kick my own heed" - for any one aware of the Jack Ass movies).

So if I see you with a Pirate emblem on your boat, I will either appologise or set fire to you...... chances are, I'll be pretty sober and happy to be home, so will............... give you a wave and sail by.......if I get home.
