The DR is still a new destination, but it is the second biggest Island in the Caribbean, after Cuba. The Island is part of the Caribbean and if you’re planning a trip down here, this is an island that you don't want to miss!
Some people might tell you not to go to the DR. The lack of information and a good cruising guide have kept the island out of cruisers tracks and logbooks.
Frank Vrigintio has written a cruising guide over the DR. You can download it on its official site!

Normally we take a dim view of people posting on here specifically to advertise something.
However, the author's statement
This looks like a great cruising guide to this little-known cruisng area for anyone planning a Caribbean season, and I would recommend that you also publish a link to this on the YBW forums.

However, the author's statement
appears to be substantially true. The guide has been written in an attempt to provide cruising boats with a reference to the harbors and facilities in the Dominican Republic. It is completely free and can be downloaded at no charge.
It is my wish that it helps you enjoy this wonderful country.
Good Cruising,
