Ionian Trip

We decided to go North this year. Boat was a Bav 38.

Rough Route:

Started from Vliho Levkas.

AntiPaxos
Firstly the bay at 39° 9' 36.79,20° 13' 34.55. Then a Second Bay at bit further South over night in an failed attempt to avoid the crowds. Circled the island. Heaving.

Corfu old Town
Anchored under the Venitian Citadel. Went into NOAK for water.

Idylic bay On NE Corfu (39° 47' 10.43, 19° 56' 45.56).
BBQ.

Kassiopi then overnight in a bay near Agni.

Lakka, Paxos - Crowded but very nice. Sprayed by Mobo owner - Twice. Clear water. Heaving.

Last Day Early start to set off for the 12am bridge so got in an hour or two's night sailing. Gaios and Ovoros Light Houses pretty useful in avoiding Ifalos Panatias awash rock.

Nisos Sparti.

Then back to Vliho.

Ironically the highlight was a blocked bog. Funny how the disasters make the holiday when you look back.

All in all quite good.

The charter boat looks a bit posher than Flap.
In fact the trip looks a good bit more appealing than going round the bottom of Gt. Cumbrae to Tarbert.
Mark, what camera for the u/water shots?
I was contemplating getting a housing for my Nikon but they're more expensive than the camera. Advice appreciated.

Personally, I wouldn't use that route to get to Iona as I think you could do it in less time by just going along the Ross - or around from Tobermory...

Slightly more roomy perhaps, but I'll be proudly telling people I've been in a Hillyard for quite some time to come and I don't think I'll be doing that about a Bav 38!

I thought this might be a little bit more akin to a craftsman built classic like "Flap":

The Missus might think that, but AFAIC you'd have to travel a lot further than Greece to beat a sail up Loch Fyne!

Yeah, I thought that the housings were a lot of cash for a bit of plastic...

I got myself a Vivitar 6200W (http://tinyurl.com/mbzd3o). It cost me 80 quid and I'm delighted with it, but then I've never used any other underwater cameras. Taking shots underwater is a bit hit and miss but if you take a lot there's always a few good ones. It's good for 10m under. (I think it's been a trifle deeper than that but not much more 'cos I can only hold me breath so long!)

By cooincidence I recently read an article about the 'latest' UW cameras. They were all perfectly capable above water (although a bit more than I'd want to spend myself) but the four considered were:

Lumix FT1
Fuji Z33WP
Olympus 550WP
Cannon D10

IIRC of those all except the Cannon are good for 3m and the Cannon is good for 10m. I think the Lumix was considered the best camera long as 3m is deep enough.
