Oban Plumbers?

Post by Clyde_Wanderer »

Nick, is it true that Plumbers and Tilers are impossible to get when need ed in Oban, heard today of someone from there had to get a Plumber from Coatbridge to renovate their bathroom after trying for 2mths for local tradesmen, but couldent get anyone.
What do you reckon?

.
I couldn't comment specifically on tilers etc, but tradespersons of any type are not easy to get here and the overall satisfaction rate is, I would say, not exactly through the roof. I thought this was the same all over Scotland?

Why don't you do some research by phoning up all the local plumbers and tilers as a prospective customer with a bathroom that needs done? Then, if you think there is a market - which there probably is - then stick an ad in the Oban Times and the West Coast Review.

You could also consider getting me to do you a decent website on a no-win no-fee basis whereby I get a commission on each job that comes via that channel.

Have you seen the bathroom on this site ? (A site for a local holiday cottage I did recently).

I can't comment yet on the availability of Plumbers in Mid Argyll, I couldn't find a tiler localy so just had two bathrooms renovated by a Joiner. It seems every other mothers son is a joiner! He did an excelent job at a not unreasonable price.

I do need a plumber to run a water supply to the garages if there are any recommendations.

I can also say, that getting a hard landscaper is almost impossible!
The job is either too big, or they don't do landscaping anymore.

The biggest frustration is getting materials, i have had to import oak from Yorkshire and garage doors from Germany. The nearest B&Q is 140 mile round trip and delivery charges are astronomic. On the upside, both John Lewis and M&S don't charge for delivery.

Are you thinking of moving Eamon?
I will not stay young forever but, I can be immature for the rest of my day's!

Bob, as I have said on this forum before I would move to somewhere like Oban or west coast tomorrow morning if my Wife would move but I think there is more chance of Cabbages growing on Mars.
I am at present making roads to prepare myself for a new career as work down this way in my trades is useless now with the economic climate the way it is.
Do you not have a Travis Perkins in Oban?
As for B&Q I am surprised there is not a branch nearer to you.
Maybe I should buy a big white van and become a White van man, doing deliveries to Oban and surroundings.
Nick great site, but one hell on a bathroom, reminds me of a sheep dip tank I once saw under on old road bridge apart from the lights, but the cobbles were very similar.

I could set you up in a very nice house for the summer if you want to investigate all work possibilities. It's in a very nice location - a place called Balvicar on Seil. I could get it for you at a very resonable rent - I might even be able to throw in a swinging mooring for some more readies - all cash in hand please.

I was going to charge him a bit extra for that - a Staffie would make a great anti theft device for the van - not that I would ever suggest that you would need one in Oban.

Often wondered, how do you get into/out off a sunken bath while keeping a degree of elegance?

You just wear a manual inflatable life jacket and pull the cord when you want out, then roll along the floor.

If it means that we can broker a deal - I'll take the dug.

The dug and I will probably be at the same speed!

My 3 yr old previous opponent has gone off sick with the chickenpox. He and I used to race 'to the next lamppost' - we were fairly evenly matched - the 'winner' would be the one who cheated with a head start.

The difference is that I can only do 2 or 3 'races' whilst the youngster can run all day.
