Jura was great, lots of boats there and the whole place mobbed - nothing like a bit of Hebridean peace and quiet . . .

Came home via Gigha, Eilean Mor in the McCormacks, Carsaig and Crinan.

just having a look around and came across this. so far as i can see you never repeated this posting nick.
i think its a good idea. we managed one night at tarbert festival last year.
i`d forgotten how wild the west was.

Theres always something on around July/August.
2 years ago we saw Ali Bain and Phil Cunningham in Tobers and last summer we went to see Dick Gaughan at Easdale which was quite magical. I did a spell as roadie for 5 hand Reel in the 70's so it was really good to see Dick again- spent ages talking about all the people we knew who are with us nae mair. Bobby Eaglesham was a friend of mine and he sadly died not too long ago - his widow and I were at school together around 127 years ago.

Outstanding man, great singer, and fabulous guitar player. I wonder if he has a photographic memory. I was at rare and informal late night session in the Bridge Hotel in Newcastle in the mid 70s. Dick was playing guitar, and local Tony Corcoran was on the fiddle.

That was the only time I'd been in his company until about 12/14 years later in Stirling when he did a benefit gig for our union branch during a three week lockout. He came up and talked to me about that night in the Bridge. I was astonished.

The event was very successful, and it was only with the greatest of difficulty that we were able to force some cash into his pocket to cover his expenses. A lot of money was raised that night, and half of it went to the Caterpillar workers who had occupied their plant in an effort to prevent closure.

I think Dick Gaughan is one of the few truly remarkable people that I've met.

Truly outstanding - I agree. His website is fascinating as is his own family story - very much the political man. He sings a great song about John Maclean.

Bert Jansch is playing Easdale on Friday 1st September but I've already booked the mooring.

Jings, Bert Jansch! Saw him on the telly recently - seems to be making a bit of a comeback.

14 - 17 september - seem to be some good groups this year. we intend to attend ( for more than one night this time ). anyone else fancy it ?
we`d probably leave kip on friday 15th and return either on sunday or monday.
