There were a couple of howlers: Taking Eggs to 'barter' at Applecross? Isn't Applecross as touristy as hell? I reckon you'd need a bunch of £20 notes to barter there - I'm sure even in the remoter parts of Jockland they have new fangled "money". Saving the Gull - Jesus-Tap Dancing-Christ.
None the less, stunning seascapes on the Baird Receiving Equipment are always welcome in chez moi.
I loved it.

TFT.
Monty does come over as a bit of a plonker but I'm sure it's just his TV persona. Glorious all the same.

Windfinder, If you dont mind, I find this very blasphemous, would you mind toning it down a bit and consider other folks faiths, personally I cant see the need for using such blasphemy in the first place.Windfinder wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... Episode_1/

Too late for me to remove it but if you remove your quote of it from your post maybe Nick can remove the offending term from my original post with my blessing. Then nobody will have to read it.Clyde_Wanderer wrote:Windfinder, If you dont mind, I find this very blasphemous, would you mind toning it down a bit and consider other folks faiths, personally I cant see the need for using such blasphemy in the first place.

So did I.
I don't see how he can hope to feed himself in 6 months but that would spoil the story.
Magical views, and the weather was kind too by the looks of it.

I think it's best to ignore the "plot" and focus on the scenery, wildlife etc.aquaplane wrote:I don't see how he can hope to feed himself in 6 months but that would spoil the story.
Sitting in his extention looking out on Raasay and Skye with a cup of tea on the go didn't look to shabby.

Are the mackeral really that scarce up that way?
I cant chuck a cig end overboard but its attacked with hundreds of them.

Probably. He's from Bris'ol, and the personal hygiene wasn't exactly examplary..... But he's a BIG plonker, but. You can discuss it with him!Is it really something to do with the phermones?![]()

Maybe DaveS could sign him up for some real 'bothy weekending', with an 'ammer, some nails, and a wheen of BBC timber.....

Re: Monty Hall's Great Escape
Good to see the Old Forge, Inverie. Looked deserted though. I've only been there twice both times well out of season and it was heaving. I wonder if that footage was taken early in the morning?
Re: Monty Hall's Great Escape
Went to the Applecross Inn last Tuesday (17th March) for lunch and had to wait for a table! In March! First time to Applecross, it's all about the drive over the hill, pleased I was on four wheels and not two as there's some really tight corners. Well worth the drive over...the lunch and the views. You could anchor just off the Inn if you were wanting to stop for lunch, I think it is possibly too exposed for an overnight stop though.

Yes, I went over the Bealach a few years ago for the sake of the hairpins. Knocked on a few doors looking for a B&B and found out they were weekend cottages owned by consultant surgeons - well i would if I could afford it. The place was jam-packed with the Glasgow Moto Guzzi owners jamboree. Lots of rorty Vtwin noises, very good. High spot for me was having a days paddle with the locally based outdoor jaunts chap - in and out of the skerries and the seals.

Re: Monty Hall's Great Escape
Great McCalmans song - Shard I can sing it if youse can play!
Two ruined villages scatter the shore,
Cottages open to wind and to seaspray,
I stood and I wondered at time and at change,
In the fields above Applecross Bay.
Sing me no songs of the right and the wrongs of it,
Fingers of blame point to some other day,
But I felt the cold hand of history's chill,
In the fields above Applecross Bay.
Down where the sky meets the sea,
Raasay and Rona lie peaceful at rest,
Sheep graze where children once played,
In the fields above Applecross Bay.
Sailors and fisher-folk, spinners and kelpers,
Planting and harvesting, gathering hay,
Living and dying and loving and crying,
In the fields above Applecross Bay.
Strangers came calling with fire and with sword,
Bailiffs and soldiers to drive them away,
Hunger and misery drove them at last,
From the fields above Applecross Bay.
Gulls wheel high over billow and foam
Calling like mothers of children who never came home
Huddled and frightened, the old world behind them,
The New world is calling, the ship's under way,
Who can imagine their thoughts as they last saw,
The fields above Applecross Bay.

Yes....thanks.
hmm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hmmmmm
hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm
hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hm hmmmm
in the field above Applecross bay
It goes up and down a bit which is really quite hard to communicate through hums but I hope I've done sufficient to convince you.
Failing that you could always have a listen http://www.the-mccalmans.com/albums/CD- ... he-Sea.htm
