stowe navigator 1

Post by little boy blue »

i inherited one of these recently. it had been superceded and disconnected. i cannot see a manual for it on the boat. it has a suncover. there is no transducer or wiring, just the bare instrument.
i have no idea if it works but if it is of use to anyone ... just ask ( naturally it is free to a home - good or bad :) )

I replaced my Stowe Navigator 1 last season.

I have the manual, if anyone needs a scanned copy.

My head worked ok - actually maybe it didn't. It worked but occasionally the display would disappear - I assumed that it was the power supply but it could have been internal. Sometimes the trip distance was reset by this fault - sometimes not.

The transducer and skin fitting is still in use - but I'll need to do something as I believe the stowe worked with 1 magnet, but the Nasa Duet has 2 magnets.

So - in conclusion - The only useful bit I could offer is a scan of the manual.

well done , ash :)

just need someone to contribute a set of cables and a transducer now, then we could try to source an original box for it. :D

And received with gratitude, Little Boy Blue! To be installed in my nice, clean new replacement facia material, courtesy of QD Plastics in Dumbarton (Thanks to QD also! - no connection etc...)

I notice the serial number on yours is in the 12,000s, mine was in the 6,000s.

I just replaced the Stowe depthsounder with a Garmin fishfinder, the theory being that the fishfinder will give me depth plus an idea of bottom condition. As an added bonus - I found when I switched it on - it gives me battery voltage. (which might be useful as I suspect it will use a fair bit of power).

Ash I have a couple spare transducers for the Clipper Duet (depth) if that is what you are needing you can have one of them.

My depth transducer lives in a wee tube bonded inside the hull and filled with oil. I used the new one which came with the Duet.

It's the speed one which I haven't changed (yet)

I recently had a PM from a new member asking for a copy of the scan. The chat on this thread had been a bit of banter - I didn't atually yet have a scanned copy. Anyway I spent a wee while scanning it and made it available.

I offered a copy to Stowe as I hadn't found it on their website, but it turned out that I hadn't looked properly.

The last entry on the above page is an Archive Page

I did get a pleasant reply from Richard Tinley.

Ash, that is exactly the way the depth side of my Duet behaves too, last wk end it was reading 1.4 etc while we were in 60m and would then read out.
My reckoning is only use it in conjuction with charts for the area.
Sorry cant help with the log transducer.

If you are fitting a NASA log, you will need to cut a 42mm dia hole in the hull.

42mm is not a size of hole saw that is readily available, but I have one which you are welcome to borrow. It's only ever cut one hole, well 2 actually. I cut a test hole in a lump of 1/2" ply first just to make sure!
