Nicholson 43 - anyone sailed one?

Post by Shuggy »

Any experience of them? Can they be handled by 2? Do they make good cruising boats?

I've not sailed one, but about 30 years ago I was moored in Rothesay when one came in. It was crewed by a couple who had sailed it up from down South, so in answer to part of your question - yes they can be handled by 2. I thought it looked gorgeous - very elegant, and most Nicholson's make good cruising boats.

The increase in size soon gets forgotten, except when paying for a berth.

one (the sloop version) parked next to me in Cherbourg and got chatting to the owner. He motor sails it with his wife. Lovely boat which he'd spent a lot of money on. Info HERE. There were 14 of them built.

I've sailed the 39' ketch and they do sail well and are very well built as well as being surprisingly manoeuverable; would think the 42 is likewise?

Thanks. There's no doubt about it, they're extremely elegant. We used to be on a swinging mooring next to one at Ardfern. Example pic:

You can't stop a good boat from looking right, can you?
