Re: Replacement sprayhood required
Someone suggested Lossie Sails to me, Tel 07989 956698.
I phoned and spoke to the woman, who sounded scandinavian.
"I'll phone you back, and come to Peterhead to measure"
Never heard from her again, so as I can't stand people who say they'll phone and never do, I went somewhere else.
Eventually went to Storrar Marine, http://www.storrarmarine.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They have a deal with St Peter's marina on the Tyne where you get a berth for a week for £30.
Rob Storrar then came down and did me a made to measure spray hood. I could have sent him the old one, and he would have made one to this as a pattern, but mine was so tatty that it would never have made a good pattern.
I sailed Rowana down single handed - Peterhead, Stonehaven, Arbroath, Eyemouth, St Peter's.
On the way back I went St Peters, Blyth, Amble, Eyemouth, Arbroath, Peterhead.
Hope this helps.

Re: Replacement sprayhood required
It turned into quite a mission actually.
About the same time as I was discussing the job, timings etc. with Rob Storrar, I had an email from an old school friend who I hadn't seen for over 20 years. He was coming over from Canada for the open golf championship at Carnoustie, and was trying to arrange a get together of some of our old classmates. We'd all gone to Carnoustie school in the 1950/early 60's.
So Arbroath seemed like a good stopping point for me for this epic reunion. There were 6 of us, one guy I hadn't seen since 1969. Suffice to say that I stopped in Arbroath for a couple of days afterwards!
When I got to the Tyne I met up with a couple who are sort of "Extended family", and as it was my birthday while I was there, they took me out for a nice pub supper.
Quite an epic journey, actually! I should maybe try to write it up as a Blog sometime to include the actual sailing bits, as this ranged from fog, flat calm, hissing rain, bouncy seas, and weather which did not quite equate to the forecast!
Good fun !

I'll resist the temptation of suggesting that you should have asked the question earlier and stopped off at Newcastle upon Tyne on your way north.nealsett wrote:I still need a new sprayhood.Any ideas?.
I suppose it will depend on how many examples of your boat were built. I own a Vega, with 3,500 built, C & J Marine were able to supply me with a sprayhood using information which they already had on file. I bought new steelwork too which probably makes it easier for them.
Might not be the answer for you but it might be worth enquiring with the bigger suppliers if they can supply without measuring your actual boat.
Another source of info would be an owners association.
Welcome to the Forum.

BTW - Are you living near your boat at Whitehillls? I was brought up just outside Portsoy, and went to secondary school in Banff but came down to Glasgow to attend college in 1970 as a 17 yr old.

That's the trouble with forums. A post can end up going off at a tangent before you know it.nealsett wrote:Thankyou but you digress.I have just sailed up from Hartlepool stopping at Blyth,Amble,Eyemouth,Arbroath,Stonehaven,Peterhead and now in Whitehills.

You could try Lossie Sails on the number I gave in my original reply - 07989 956698
Just because she never called me back, doesn't mean that you might not have better luck. It might be that she thought Peterhead was a wee bit too far to come, but I would rather she had said in the first place if this was the case.
I've had a bit of stitching done to one of my sails by Bisset & Ross in Aberdeen. I know they do tarpaulins and things, but whether they would do a sprayhood or not, I don't know.
Does the Harbourmaster at Whitehills not have any suggestions? He seemed a very nice guy with a font of local knowledge when I was in last year.
Hope this Helps
Jim
