Hello again,
It feels as if the seasons have returned to their normal pattern, after years of being out of sync. Our chilly weather this week is because the jet stream is to the south of us, so we are on the cold side of it. The post comparing this December to the past 10-years certainly hit the right note, so many of you were pleased that your ‘feelings’ had been confirmed!
The first forecast charts for Christmas are coming through, and I will try to post of these later.
Onto the weekend forecast though, and if you know anyone who’d like to receive this email each week just tell them to send a request to join to sailingweather-subscribe@weatherweb.net
Best wishes,
Simon
WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 0900 Friday 12th December 2008
SATURDAY:
An occluded front moves eastwards through the UK tonight and into tomorrow. This becomes a slow moving feature over the east in the afternoon. A low develops over the Midlands in the evening and then drifts northwards through the night.
Heavy periods of rain through southern England, the Midlands, northern England and eastern Scotland in the morning. Very little change for the afternoon, the rain just edging further east, but it could be heavy again, falling as snow over the hills of northern England and Scotland. Very windy ahead of the rain too with gales in places.
Drier weather follows to western parts of Scotland, England and Wales, although a few showers are likely on the coasts. Eastern Ireland should be dry with sunny spells throughout the day, but a few snow showers may affect western coasts.
Winds will be S 30-40kt (F7-F

SUNDAY:
The area of low pressure drifts north to be through northern England at midday on Sunday. The wrap around occlusion is a weak affair but highlights where most of any precipitation will be falling.
A damp day through Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and eastern England with outbreaks of rain. Plenty of low cloud around elsewhere too, with some mist or fog patches. These will be clearing and then the day should be fair in these areas.
Northern Scotland probably seeing the best of any sunshine with VFR conditions here.
Winds will be somewhat cyclonic at 5-10kt (F2-F3) over the south of the country, ESE 12-15kt (F4) to the north.
