I had hoped David would post this himself, but perhaps he is a little intimidated by us now. Anyway, this is the email I received from the principal of Glasgow Sea School, unabridged and unedited.
I will of course now be giving the school a listing in the relevant section of the website in due course.Nick
I have just become aware that Glasgow Sea School has ‘spammed’ Bluemoment!
Glasgow Sea School is being set up as a non commercial school but is in the process of acquiring trust status on a not-for-profit basis. Our main aim is to provide low cost and subsidised RYA and water safety training to excluded individuals and groups who otherwise would not be able to access training at sailing clubs etc. We also provide a teaching facility for outside instructors and community groups to run classes. It is very early days for us but having some success working with community boating, student and other groups in Glasgow and Clyde area, basically introducing people to the water, bringing people on as commercial skippers and changing peoples lives for the better.
As a r eturn favour for free training we were offered the services of an undergraduate computer science student to spend time advertising our courses over the internet. He was given a free reign to post the URL on free directories etc but did not expect him to spam and hack members lists on websites. It’s not the kind of advertising we are looking for and the students misguided services have been terminated.
As the principal of the school I offer my sincere apologies for the aggravation and any offence we have caused Bluemoment. As a gesture of goodwill I would like to offer a free 40hr intensive Yachtmaster Theory course for Bluemoment to distribute to one of its members. We have a space available on the course from 5th-9th Jan 2009. It may be good for a website competition or ideally presented to someone who is desperate for the training and is available to attend the course on above dates. Obviously, it’s at your discretion how to proceed with the offer but will keep a place open and hopefully hear from you soon.
Sincerely
David Nairn
Regarding David's very generous training offer, if anyone is interested in a free intensive YM theory course in January could they please PM me? If there is more than one person interested I will devise a little task or competition to decide the winner.
