Glasgow Sea School

Post by Nick »

.
It would appear that several of us have received PM spam from our latest sign-up, one glasgowseaschool

My apologies for this. I have sent the following by PM and email to Mr. Seaschool:
How dare you spam the whole forum using the PM system?

It is not unknown for people to join purely for the purpose of advertising their business . . . but this is the first time in seven years anyone has actually PM-ed the whole forum.

For your audacity you have been awarded a lifetime ban from BlueMoment, with no chance of your school ever being listed on the directory section of this site. Well done!
I am not sure, but I hope that by deleting him promptly his PMs will disappear from the inboxes of those who have not yet opened them . . . please let me know. As I have deleted him you will be unable to voice your displeasure by PM, but his email is info@glasgowseaschool.org

I wonder why people do that? He could presumably have had a directory listing or even a press release just for the asking. Being spammed makes me less likely to use someone's services, not more, and I imagine the same goes for most people using a forum like this one.

How many others got pms?

I just deleted it withour reply. I have much better things to do with my life than getting my twickers in a nist over spam like this.

Do you feel like a post on buttlescut advising of this punters tactics?

I will be watching

I didn't get a PM either, but I would just assume that's coz I know all about sailing so a sailing school would have nothing to offer me!! :ostrich

I also got notification of one which had been deleted when I clicked on the notification box.

I suspect he'd been going through the member list in date joined order (the default view) in which case Claymore and Shard should also have notifications when next they sign in.

Ah! that explains why I got a notification, went to my box and found a message from Ocklepoint dated September.

Thank you for saving me from Mr Glasgowseaschool.

Same here. Notification of two new messages; I opened one real one, then there were no new messages.

What an absolutely intolerant bunch you are, you stuffy sods.
Times are hard - never harder than for a Sea School located in Glasgow at this time of the year. Have you tried sailing a crew of first timers down Argyll or Buchanan Streets in December?
The guy was just looking to a bit of business - shame on you all and I think all of you who protested should chip in and charter him for the Chents Cruise 09.
Thank God, I didn't object - imagine being cooped up on a boat all weekend with youse, ye rechabitian parashites.
xx :D
Regards
Claymore

There's a back story to this, more later.

In the meantime, all those of you who want to sign up for Claysie's course on Netiquette for the Nautical should PM him :)

I didn't have a PM from them :(

Mind you, forbye all the "ethical" issues about forum rules and suchlike, I thought their web site was quite good.
