Hello again,

High pressure is likely to be building through the country this weekend. With the cold temperatures, snow and rain this week, December 2008 is certainly following November as feeling like winter should!

Weatherweb.TV will be available throughout the weekend as usual, and the learning Channel is there too to help some basic weather concepts.

Onto the weekend forecast though, and if you know anyone who’d like to receive this email each week just tell them to send a request to join to sailingweather-subscribe@weatherweb.net

Best wishes,
Simon

WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 0900 Friday 5th December 2008

SATURDAY:
High pressure is expected to be centred over Northern Ireland at midday on Saturday. A cool northerly to northeasterly flow affects many parts of the country as a trough brushes eastwards through Scotland.
A few showers for the far north of Scotland and parts of East Anglia through this morning, and lasting into the afternoon too. For all other parts of the country it should be a dry day.
There will be some mist and fog to deal with early on, notably across Ireland and southwest Scotland as well as sheltered parts of Wales and southwest England (the fog more patchy here). This should clear away for most, although it could linger over parts of Ireland throughout the day.
Elsewhere a fair day with some spells of sunshine.
Winds will be mainly N 5-10kt (F2-F3) but 15-20kt (F5) for coasts of NE England, East Anglia and the extreme southeast. Mainly VRB 1-5kt (F1-F2) over Ireland and WSW 12-17kt (F4-F5) for northern Scotland.

SUNDAY:
The area of high pressure slips southeast to be over the south of the country by midday on Sunday. A more brisk southwest flow will be picking up across Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland as a cold front approaches from the west in the late afternoon.
For much of England, Wales and southern Ireland it could be a foggy start to the day. Widespread, dense, freezing fog is possible through the morning, this reluctant to clear from some places into the afternoon. Confidence is moderate in this at the moment, but do check the forecast through the weekend. Where the fog does clear away it will become dry and sunny.
To the north cloud is going to be thickening through the day. This will be lifting the fog across northern England and Northern Ireland, with the winds increasing here too.
Thickening cloud for Scotland with rain into the north and west by mid afternoon, some of that becoming heavy over the hills.
Winds will be light and variable, then mainly WSW 1-5kt (F1-F2) in the south, increasing to SW 10-15kt (F4) across Ireland and northern England, but SW 20-25kt (F6) for northern and western Scotland.

New maps

I like your new maps - they fit my screen and seem clearer than the previous. I feel I should know this, but what are the dashed contours labelled 15, 20 etc.?

I liked them as well, but it seems Simon must have heard you as they've changed to the "old" style.

Damn, so they have. And I don't suppose I'll now ever know what the "other" contours were. :(

Hi

Do you guys ( general generic term ) not subscribe to Simon's free email sevice?

Anyway, my email shows the gifs with the dashed lines. When I feel less lethargic, I'll upload them to PB, and Post. Or I could forward the email to anyone who wants to PM me their email.

IIRC, on Saturday, most of the country from the Midlands N had a dashed contour of 15.

Hi guys,

had a problem with the charts last week, hence the new map. The problem with that map is that it does not show up on Weatherweb.TV very well. I'm trying to work on a comprismise which will meant he charts are smaller and fit into a single screen.
