Secondhand book shops..

Post by Silkie »

Doncha just love 'em!

Found a new one at the weekend but I'm not telling where it is and for the princely sum of £5.20 I purchased:

The Venturesome Voyages of Captain Voss - Capt. J. C. Voss
Cruise of the Conrad - Alan Villiers
The Impossible Voyage - Chay Blyth
Desolation Island - Patrick O'Brian

I've been looking for an affordable copy of Forty Thousand Miles in a Canoe for years and it did not disappoint.

Supposedly the largest second hand book shop in England is in Alnwick in Northumberland - I'll bet that a Google would find it and all its treasures!

I presume they only put the valuable books online but the Sea & Sailing section is distinctly underwhelming although they do have the first four volumes of Cowper's Sailing Tours. It was number five I really wanted. :(

I see there's a facsimile reprint in Helensburgh for £20.

Its only 6 weeks to bonfire night, but due to the dire financial outlook are there any second hand firework shops?

My daughter runs an antiquarian book shop on ebay. She uses abe to see prices and then undercuts them!

I have friends with such a shop in Glasgow and I usually get a generous discount but never four for a fiver.

I must email them a link to this thread. :)
