Well - we cannot have this can we. No blimey responding is just not on. So I will respond. There was a very good book that I read years ago - the Monkey Wrench Gang - and there was a time/six pack formula in there for judging distance travelled.
Sadly as I am now likened to a Sylph - I can no longer indulge in my own particular bored passage making activity of producing toast. I think my Personal Best is 1 loaf to Piel and 1 returning to Fleetwood. Will need to check the inventory to see whether that was a jar of Jam (Tiptree and Wilkin Raspberry tips) each way or whether I actually made the one jar last the full trip.

Not so much time related, but it does remind me somewhat of my early days at sea when I was but a sprog.
This was LONG before GPS and such electronic wizardry for finding one's position, the Suez canal was closed and we had to go south about Africa to get to the perishing gulf.
After our watch, we used to indulge in a can or three, then chuck the empties over the side. After one particular session, we came up with a brilliant plan for navigation. All that was required was some sort of metal detector hung from the bow, and we could follow the train of empties all the way
We were convinced at the time that it could be made to work
Happy Days, or was it Daze

Keep on posting . . . this is NOT a Scottish forum (well, not entirely anyway)

Aw! Don't be like that Salty. I was another who was entertained by your post but couldn't think of a suitably witty rejoinder.
Looking back, I'm gratified to see how much of my drivel has merited a reply of some kind but this looks like my most unappreciated post to date with over 630 views and no replies.

Dina fash yersel John, I know how you feel though sometimes.
We will have to meet up in The Albert, or The Hole in the Wall and discuss the size of the wake of the "Misses" versus the Swan,Teal and Tern. Failing that when I'm at Erica's in Preston we will come over to the pub by the toll bridge and you can sell me a tiller hand thingumyjig.

Yer on! I will have to get the Galley Slave a schooner of sweet sherry too.
We went out to The Cartford on a recomendation from someone for a meal about 3 months ago. It was wierd that a couple of weeks later I was looking at your site and thought the post code looked local. Looking it up on Google maps I said, "hey Erica, it's that place by the river we went for tea the other week".
We are away on the Clyde Cruise for the next 2 weeks but the boat is going back on Windermere for the rest of the season after that. We will bump into you either on the Fylde or in the Lakes sooner rather than later I hope.
