Fish Farms At Sanda and Skye Proposals

Mowi has bought two islands, Sanda and Fladda-Chuain. Sanda is planned to have a salmon fish farm and the Fladda-Chuain development is still being planned. Interesting locations as both areas are quite exposed and have reasonably strong currents. I suppose the latter is useful for washing away the muck and maintaining oxygen levels in the water.

I wonder how the Sanda development for tourism will work, could be a good thing, might be excrement, we shall see. Employment and development is a benefit to these communities, and Mowi contributes to that, but the intensity of salmon farming can be quite damaging.

I have never anchored at Fladda-Chuain, lots of times at Sanda. I would hope that both these developments would leave anchorage room.

Does anyone have experience of the moorings they have put in place in Colonsay? Knowing how closely they are scrutinised, I'd be surprised if they don't follow up on their publicly stated intentions. its an easy "win" for them to put in and maintain a few moorings close to their proposed farm as they will have all the divers and equipment on site regularly to inspect and maintain their fish farm assets.

The Mowi moorings at Colonsay, Muck and Rum are pretty good.

I note they have also acquired the associated boatyard at Campbeltown that once serviced Sanda also.
In what've said so far, there's an intention to reserve access to the north anchorage at sanda, and add moorings there in an appropriate part, fix the small jetty, and more. Their own operations are apparently intended to be at the east end of the island.

RYA, CCC Sailing Directions and others, are communicating with Mowi about Sanda intentions.
