Lassoing A Cleat

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

I like Duncan Wells's Stress Free Sailing stuff, full of useful bite size chunks of information. Here are his tips for lassoing cleats from your boat.

What's that? Dunno! Should we be worried about that? Dunno! How? Ah dunno!

That's interesting. I have lately started using a different method (after plan A - avoid pontoons) with a large loop, about 1m long, knotted in the end of a line, with about 1/3 of the loop's length with stiff tube on it. The tube holds the loop open. I don't throw from a distance, rather place the loop over cleat at close range.

I should practice the throw for those times when we can't get close enough to drop the loop.
