YOTBLOG - Major upgrade coming later this month

Post by Nick »

.
YotBlog has been running for nearly three years now without a hitch, but in that time the software has moved on. The site is now running a very outdated version of the blogging software and we need to bite the bullet and perform a major upgrade process.

The new version of the software will have all sorts of highly desirable features including:

 Moblogging you can upload blog entries via email or from your mobile phone

 Podcasts you can upload audio and create a podcast with a single click

 More social / networking option

 Photo albums hosted by YotBlog

Prior to the upgrade the site will be temporarily suspended (as we dont want anyone writing to the database during the upgrade) and a complete database and files backup will be made. This means that if it all goes pear-shaped we will be able to restore the existing site very quickly.

While it is 99.9% certain that all will go smoothly :hardhat: I do want to emphasise that this is a MAJOR upgrade and that, as a free service, YotBlog cannot be held responsible for your files in the event of an unforeseen problem.

We would therefore encourage all regular bloggers to download a copy of HTTrack (see the announcement below) and make a copy of their blog before we carry out the upgrade.

We anticipate carrying out the upgrade towards the end of the month and will post here and send out an email to all YotBlog users forty-eight hours in advance. If you have any queries about this or about backing up your own blog then please post them here.
