Millport
Peel Ports NtM 75/23 covers a planned breakwater connecting the islands in Millport Bay with work planned from 11th Sept to March 2024. I would expect the visitors' moorings will be soon gone. I'd post the notice if this forum's software would let me but I recommend anyone planning to visit Millport has a look at the Peel Port site.

Re: Millport
Thanks for posting @Marisca
"A wave monitoring buoy and 4x temporary marker buoys will also be established to mark the work area boundary and mariners are requested to remain outside this area. Entry to and from the harbour is to the East of Millport Bay. The existing shore-based lights will be permanently extinguished when the marker buoys are established. A new lighting scheme will be installed as part of the project and will be communicated in a separate NTM."
Not clear if the new lighting scheme is for the works only or permanent. Given the gaps between the islands are being filled in, I suspect permanent. The Reeds almanac (2024 has just been published) and CCC/Imray pilot books will need updating.
Stand by for numerous, repeating posts on the various Scottish Sailing Facebook pages asking what's happening, and can I park here etc!

Re: Millport
It is going to come as a shock to anyone whose chart shows 333deg to the pier as the entry line. Let's hope it's big enough and obvious enough at high water to deter the hard of thinking.

Re: Millport
Looks good, great to have sheltered mooring buoys or better still extended pontoons. Potentially a real boost to Millport from marina tourism once established.
Someone is bound to mess up the approach, it is narrow and shallow, but most will navigate it.

The new lighting on the buoys is temporary and a permanent lighting scheme will be established when works are complete: -

The article suggests that the actual target users of the marina has not yet been established. Anyone any idea of tis has been developed further?

Re: Millport
I suppose this will knacker any chance of being able to anchor off the pier.
Suppose there is still Kames Bay...

My usual preferred anchorage appears to be slap bang in the middle of the suggested route . . .

Re the suggested route north of the eilans, in my youth I remember seeing bathers wading out to the northern eilan at low water and the water only reached the waists of the shorter ones.

Cumbrae Community Council FB page has more information for those interested. I'll be down that way early September, so will stop in for a look.
