Loch Aline

Post by Aja »

We often anchor here as it is a great place to stop and a very good anchorage.

Maybe it's too good an anchorage. We normally do the anchor at the top of the Loch just outside the moorings as we use the slip to go for walks ashore - however we notice that more boats anchor further out to the south and west.

Is there a reason that boats anchor so far out. We are normally in about 4-5m and others are usually about 7+m?

One consideration is that there is less of the foul smelling mud further out which would be a bonus in the morning when leaving

What do others think?

Loads of yotties are sheep who if they do anchor will anchor close, often too close, to someone else..

How many times have you been happily on the hook with tons of space around only to have someone turn up, circle round the otherwise empty anchorage then come and drop right on top of you anchor?

They will possibly be new to anchoring and don’t know their draft and/or how to read the tides..
