Watermota J transmission oil leak

Post by Cmayder »

Hello all,

It looks like I’ve developed a leak on my Watermota j transmission box. Noticed some oil in the bilge/sump but the engine oil doesn’t seem to be going down. Where the shift lever pivot goes all the way through the housing there looks like there’s quite a bit of play where it exits (I’ve been told the lever can be fitted to either side of the box so hats why the pivot goes all the way through). It’s on a Freeman 22 mk2 so it’s the big lever version. Does anyone know if this is a common thing and if it’s just a mater of changing an o ring?

Thanks in advance.

If it is this gearbox, then yes, the shaft goes all the way through with a pair of O rings, one each end. However, how the shaft is retained is a bit more complex. It looks as if the gear lever clamps and the internal link for selecting forward / reverse retain the shaft. Hence, it could be a bit more complex than just O rings.
