Fish farms are growing

Planning Applications have been made to incease substantially the size of fish farms just outside Dunstaffnage and west of Lismore, just south of Salen. If you want to see more, go to https://publicaccess.argyll-bute.gov.uk ... pplication with the references 20/02358/MFF and 20/02359/MFF.

Not much of a problem to me though the Dunstaffnage one is ofen in the way but I understand the application fits into the existing fish farm zone, just using more of it.

I'm conflicted about these. We need rural jobs and support for the rural economy, but the impact of their pollution in the sea lochs, the source of the feed for the salmon farms, lice infestation, diseased fish, mortality and disease etc etc give the impression of the golden goose being strangled. SEPA's record of enforcement of the existing regulations is also open to question.

The product is also awful to eat. Overfeeding leads to a fatty layer between flesh and skin, and lack of space means the flesh itself isn't toned and firm. I suppose supermarket buyers either don't know or care about the quality.

I agree though about employment, so on balance I see them as a necessary evil.

What does personally affect me is the ultrasonic seal scarer in lamlash bay which you can hear when tucked in behind holy isle. Only other time I hear anything like it is going through the butec range at rona.
