Walking on Water - A Cautionary Tale

Post by Silkie »

It has been suggested that a report on my recent near-death experience might prove educational and so I have written it up in my latest blog entry.

You know you keep hearing these stories about folk and water and life jackets. It seems to me that most of them involve trips from the pub to the boat in a dingy. Or pub to the boat on a jetty.

Has anyone any not involving the pub?

Are we perfectly safe once we are on the boat? It's only getting on and off by what ever method/route that's dangerous?
Seminole.

Let's consider the near death experience that Silkie put me through recently. We had gone to Glasgow Airport to collect some Southerners for the Scuttlebutt cruise. As we were waiting I felt a lump in my pocket which I then whipped out and accidentally dropped the stubby screwdriver that I had been using to assemble my boat that morning. Oh dear thought I, airport security will descend like a plague of locusts and confiscate that. At this point Silkie pipes up with 'Oh dear, I've just remembered that I have my sailing knife in my pocket.' I was now convinced that we would be locked up and interrogated - John Smeaton would be assigned personally to beat a confession out of us. I could hear the snapping of rubber gloves. Fortunately the security staff must have been on a lunch break as we escaped unscathed, but like Silkie's tale of walking on water it could so easily have ended differently!
