Currently my tools live in a bottom drawer in teh saloon. I have been meaning to make a toolbox that will sit under the companionway steps and free the drawer up. The Corona Virus has made the time available. Have you made anthing for the boat during the lock down?

The level is weird because the camera lens is wide angle. The set square on the bench, is an engineers square, manufactured to be accurate and that was used to get the cut line that the level is parallel to; it was really being used as a fence for the jig saw to get the first rough cuts.

I think it may be too tall as I forgot about the consumer unit that sits on the bulkhead behind the companion way steps, the space that the box is supposed sit in. Easily fixed, I can just run it through the bench saw and cut each side down and fit a new base if it is.

LadyOldBoots said much the same thing as well, and stated it will be too heavy to lift. We shall see. I did size it to get all the tools in, mechanical and electrical, as well as boxes of spare parts.

Mebbes screw a couple of shelves tae the front and it could become companionway steps.

Well, ya bunch of critical cantankerous complainers, I fitted my 'tool box from gash wood' sans grief. It is not too heavy, snuggly fits behind the companionway steps and now holds all the tools, including the lecy tool box freeing up a drawer below the chart table. While it can't replace the companionways steps, it can be used as a nice stool at the end of the saloon table.

I don't why I bother trying to help keep this place going, it's just grief. Anyway, for those remotely inclined to complain some more, the pictures. I just need to make a retention strap as having it flying about in rough weather would not be healthy.

What a wonderful construction - fine example of joinery. Nicely cut and the corners are exceptionally well measured and clearly the designer worked closely with the construction team to produce this magnificent tool box.
A credit to all concerned.

If - and its only a little if - IF I could offer a word of constructive criticism? I'm just amazed that anyone would choose to fill, what could clearly and happily find space in any demonstration of the works of such cabinet makers as Chippendale, Gillow et al - with such a sparse and manky array of 'tools'.

I wonder if we should set up a crowd-funding initiative to secure a more appropriate and certainly cleaner and more gleamier set

I don't do gleamier and rather like manky, it suits my outlook on life. At the bottom of the box there is a new, self contained socket and spanner set.

There are enough tools on my boat, thank you very much.

The next project is a whisky glass drawer, made from the finest offcuts of teak faced ply although another box for fastenings and manky old bits and bobs is required to free up a cupboard that would be better used for bottle storage.
