Mooring Buoys Lobster Pots In Carsaig Bay

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

Hello,

Hooked a pick up buoy attached a large morning buoy for a lunch time stop. The pick up line was about 12/14 mm and there was no mooring strop but a large chain loop a bit under the surface. We could not get the chain loop to the boat but noticed the outline of a lobster pot a bit below the surface. We released the pick up line just as the lobster pot owner arrived on a small lobster boat. All very pleasant and he advised that the mooring buoy next to his anchored yacht was okay to use.

It's no big deal, but if you are down that way be careful. There is possibility that it is a genuine mooring but had the strop removed and a lobster pot was there for an off chance catch. The lobster fishermen tied his lobster boats alongside his anchored yacht and was very pleasant, no hassle at all, young guy.

All the best,

Alastair
