As a result of serious illness I've been offline for rather a long time. Additionally, I've moved back down to Cornwall so I can be closer to the family. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some sailing in this year, but in the long-term, I don't think I'll be buying.

Hi, Silkie, sorry if I appear to have taken your post out of context. I'm also sorry that we're unlikely to get to crack the seal on that bottle of Lagavulin, for a little while at least.

Lets just see how the next few months pan out. My aim is to do next year's Jester Azores Challenge; I'm using that as a focus to get me through.

Well, the good news is that the missus is getting much better following her return to Cornwall. We enjoyed our three years in Scotland but returning home was our only option. While I can live just about anywhere (apart from maybe Hull), she needed the support network provided by her family while I was away on the rigs.

The other good news is that, fingers crossed, I'll be a boat owner by years-end. A friend of the family is retiring from sailing at the end of the season, and has offered me first refusal on his very tidy Sadler 25.

Meanwhile, I get to sail it when I'm home.

..except that every time I get a weekend to sail, featured winds vary from F6-9 although that seems to be a fairly widespread problem this year. Still time for it to settle down though, touch wood, scratch a backstay and turn three times.

Ah, the joys of summer in the UK. At least I get three weeks clear with nothing to do but wait for a suitable window, and if it's too lumpy at sea I can potter about on the Fal.

I wonder if the sun will shine at all this year?
