Round the Island race practice?

Post by ParaHandy »

this wus last w/e's attempt at the more difficult, upwind, leg of RTI race in a F6. ah'm gie'in seareeush thocht tae entering ma auld tub. It's £60 or a quarter orra ma winter fuel all'ce tae enter.

nooo, ah reckon if ah cud av 6kn, ah'd finish oan ra same day (it took 3hrs to do that bit) if ah cud guarantee the wind wus >20kn.

Whit dae youse all reckon are ma chances? (note tacking angles - guid, eh? - the wee kinky bit wus an IOW fecking ferry in ra way)

erm..... not sure how to tell you this ..... you may find yourself giving way to a lot of other boats if you sail that course on race day.

i think you go too far into osborne bay? When we beat jimi (why don't we include that phrase in posts more often i wonder?...) Anyway, when we beat jimi we tacked early and stayed in faster tide. That way instead of doing ok-ish to cowes, we went much faster and hence - that was when we beat jimi.

when we beat jimi we didn't have to contend with St Catherine (IoW ferry) who persistently refused to give way so had to sail much deeper until i cd tack and go clear behind her. also, when we beat jimi, the wind was slightly more wnw (wus wunnit?). as well, when we beat jimi, we were heading for cowes whereas, this time, wanted to avoid the dump. also, when we beat jimi, he disappeared orf away somewhere although a few sniffs at east cowes should have made us realise (wind more southish by then) that we must have beaten jimi as he wasn't upwind of us. of course, when we beat jimi, did he not claim that the additional weight of the hidden holding tank was what did it but that was long after we'd beaten him?
