I eventually discovered the problem. Just because I was registered for blogging didn't mean that would do as registration for the forums.
It took me a while to spot this - I suppose the reference to "another server" should really have been a hint.

Welcome aboard Cap'n
I've enjoyed all your blog entries so far. Excellent news therefore that there's 5 years' worth still to come. Can't wait to hear your take on the Chentlemens' Cruise!

Competition
Ah but improvements are on the way!
The new mainsail is due to arrive in a fortnight and, depending on the weather, I'm hoping to fit the new underwater secret weapon this weekend.

Can we stop all this rude talk please and might I respectfully point out that you will all remain in line astern until such time as you are commanded to go in somwhere that looks a bit tricky first.
Actually - the line astern bit will be easy for you given Claymore's speed advantage demonstrated so convincingly last year between Duart and Loch Aline.

Hah!
I suppose if you repeat a piece of wishful thinking often enough it becomes a kind of actuality. I'm currently reading The Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst. Some interesting parallels..claymore wrote:Actually - the line astern bit will be easy for you given Claymore's speed advantage demonstrated so convincingly last year between Duart and Loch Aline.
