Tiny harbour by Port Appin

Does anyone know the story behind this tiny harbour in Airds Bay, east of Port Appin and west of the entrance to Loch Creran? The harbour is the little notch in the coast on the east side of Airds Bay, close east of the 0.9m spot depth and west of the Tree symbol.

It must have taken quite a bit of effort to construct. I wonder why.

It is called Cam Phort! It apparently translates to dry dock.

I don't know if it applies in this instance, but in the heyday of Victorian sporting estates the owner and guests would sometimes arrive in the owner's personal steam yacht, and appropriate infrastructure had to be built to accommodate this.
