A New Trend To Replace Jet Skis
Old men, probably retired, with RIBs. Yesterday 6 were launched at Craobh Marina. I motored over to Shuna for a night on the hook.
There were nesting geese, 6 deer, two different types cautiously moving towards the waters edge. Peaceful. This morning, calm, low mist, perfect reflections, and distant mountains on the horizon, birds tweeting, chirping and warbling. All very Tolkien.
This morning the tranquility was ripped apart, shattered, by a cacophony of RIBs from all directions, a lot more than 6, heading towards the Cuan Sound.
The only saving grace is that they do pass quite quickly but the drone lingers for a long time on this still morning.
Peace has returned as I await their wakes.

What's that? Dunno! Should we be worried about that? Dunno! How? Ah dunno!

Re: A New Trend To Replace Jet Skis
Dreadful carry on - however after shaking the grey matter a tad - I have a solution.
You will recall in 'The Great Escape' - Hilts aka Steve McQueen took out a german motorcyclist with a carefully placed wire across the road?
Might I suggest that if you nip into Cuan and fix a bit of razor wire from the beacon on the cleit and then run it across to my rock and fix it there - there are plenty of little grikes to do that with - and then make sure that said impediment floats just below surface level - probably with a fender or somesuch - along comes rib and split runs from arse to tit thus disabling said rib and discouraging others.....

whilst an attractive concept and entertaining to film/watch, how do you make it selective to only catch those who deserve it and not all who pass by?

Hmm,
Well - The webster doesn't live too far away and he probably has time on his hands so perhaps he would get it started?
I can tell you are not really going for this - I'll have another think.....

Re: A New Trend To Replace Jet Skis
It was more an observation on the proliferation of Ribs by retirees, than a call to cull.
If you want to punish old people with money to burn on Ribs, tax them, remove the triple lock, stop paying state pension to pensioners with an income above a certain threshold. Invest the savings in the young.

Seems to me that you have a vendetta against retirees. We are all allowed to work beyond the age of 65. Less of the "punishing" of "old people", please.BlowingOldBoots wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 6:33 pm It was more an observation on the proliferation of Ribs by retirees, than a call to cull.

As an aside, I am pensioner who believe it or not pays a higher % of my income than the Prime Minister.

Mmm. A mild rant about wealthy pensioners and Ribs, results in another pensioner wanting to garrotte their machines, which is retorted to by suggesting a more humane way of dealing with their Rib purchasing power, that results in another pensioner getting upset at thinking they are not allowed to work.Aja wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 8:47 pmSeems to me that you have a vendetta against retirees. Certainly not weird. Just wondering why you needed such a rant over a very insignificant happening.
Looks as if there was a meet on of some kind

My OP explains why I commented, or do I need to use bigger text and simpler words?Aja wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 10:15 am Certainly not weird. Just wondering why you needed such a rant over a very insignificant happening.

.
It's the annual Easdale Rib Rendezvous organised by Seafari mogul and serial wildlife botherer Tony Hill. The event has a new, ugly and hard-to-navigate Squarespace website this year.

Anyone would think there were no competent website designers around locally.l
Just a noisy bank holiday top-up to the usual surplus of English retirees with more money than sense displacing the locals here in Argyll.
I usually try to be away this weekend, but it caught me by surprise this year.

That explains it then, thanks.
There was DSC alert, vessel in distress unspecified, just off the NE corner of Jura. Coastguard put out a Mayday referring to a Vessel’s name, no response. A Rib amd a workboat responded as they were near by. Eventually the rib called in that it was an error. Never heard from the boat that initiated the DSC alert, everyone else was loud and clear.

Got a right itch to put you on ignore, but good sense is to retire from coming here.BlowingOldBoots wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 12:13 pmMy OP explains why I commented, or do I need to use bigger text and simpler words?Aja wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 10:15 am Certainly not weird. That’s not a nice thing to do. Only you choose to respond to my posts. If you don’t respond, I won’t respond back, participating is voluntary.Aja wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 10:57 amGot a right itch to put you on ignore, but good sense is to retire from coming here.BlowingOldBoots wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 12:13 pmMy OP explains why I commented, or do I need to use bigger text and simpler words?Aja wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 10:15 am Certainly not weird. Re: A New Trend To Replace Jet Skis
I blame the OP for referencing "Jet Skis" in their post's title. Just a mention of these noisy, pointless machines is bound to trigger an aggresive response in normally placid yachtsmen. That the body of the original post actually referred to disturbance of the littoral environment by RIBS was unlikely to ameliorate the effect of the title. Maybe, like references to TOP, this forum should avoid any mention of PWCs unless it is someone paddling their Avon flubber.
