Cut Off
No way in or out of the village for most of the day and it’s looking like several days until the Lochgilphead road will be open as a large section of the hill at the head of the loch is now on the road..
Couldn’t even get to the shop this morning as the water was waist deep just before the pub!
Still raining…..

Amazing photos appearing of Oban under water and the landslide that’s blocking your way south

Re: Cut Off
Hope folks stay safe and damage to property et cetera is avoided. People stranded were lifted to safety by the coastguard helicopter.
As a by the way, there is a research paper called Scotland’s Superhighways, which was about the various sea routes around the Scottish coast that facilitated movement around the country of people and goods. Scotland, apparently was a difficult country to traverse and boat transport was normal, common and effective, efficient.
We appear to be going backwards these days.
Stay safe!

Your advise, a couple of years ago, on buying one of those properties was prophetic!

Re: Cut Off
Took a bike ride up and a walk to a safe spot to look at the Landslip at the head of the loch and got talking to an engineer doing a drone survey. He recons on several weeks as there is a lot of unstable rocks that will need to be dropped before any machinery can safely work and as that will be done by rope access it’ll be a slow process..
Sorry about the wind noise.

That’s incredible. A huge volume of mud and stone just washed down. Looks like the long way round to check the boat. when I get back home.
Thanks for posting the video.

I checked Claymores boat during the storm a few days ago - booze locker still empty but even so I secured his main sail cover.

Re: Cut Off
There is some drone footage on Facebook that also shows the extent of the landslide and the damage. Looks like you need some avalanche style dynamiting to get the unstable rocks and mud down. V tough for everyone in the area

Re: Cut Off
Any news on the Lochgilphead road opening? Are all the landslides cleared on the A83?

Re: Cut Off
It’ll be closed for a few more months rather than weeks I think…
